You play as Arc, a battle hardened drifter who is captured by an alien race in the depths of space. Arc’s capturers plan to enslave him and put his strength to work.

But, Arc has other plans.

He is a trained and elite Star Marine and in a fury of bullets he is going to take them all down!

Star Marine is the kind of retro inspired game we love to see dropping on AppVaders desk. A high octane platform based run ‘n’ gun game with a load of value.

The story centres around Arc, a space marine, capture by alien evil-doers. After escaping his bonds in a space station prison, he picks up his assault rifle and starts his bloody bid for freedom.

This app has much to endear it to retro loving gamers. From the character graphics to background scenes, the game is rich in detail. One of the highlights are the numerous aliens encountered along the way and they way they attack – they come at you from above, from the front, from the back… they swoop, they fly, the charge, they spit out fire, lob bombs, shoot lasers… the variety of action is almost endless.

However you have some nice upgrades to help you beat off their relentless advances… especially in terms of weapons and they all come with great names : The Reaper, The Decimator HD, The Crippler and many more. Choosing which two to carry at one time really depends on your style of play.

What we also liked was the way Arc manages to Hang-10 when he does a leap… and in true Star Marine fashion, keeps up the firing as you gently glide him to his next landing spot. Its hard after a while not make Arc jump from any vantage point you can as you enter a Matrix-like rampage.

The game comes with 11 campaign levels, plus 4 Survival modes (unlocked after certain levels have been completed in campaign mode) and a ‘Boss Rush’ mode (unlocked after you have completed the campaign).

If run ‘n; gun action is your thing, or retro inspired games, then this app is for you… and even if those things are not, Star Marine is still a sure bet buy. With the amount of gameplay available and the frenetic pace of action involved, Star Marine: Infinite Ammo should become a classic.
