The words

YourVersion came out with 2.0 the other week and have made an already great app, even better.

It’s whole premise is that it will discover relevant, useful content based on your interests. For as long as I have been using it (many months now) it has done just that.

Upon opening you have to register, which takes just a minute. You are then asked to fill out 5 interests, which can be of one or more words i.e. iPhone or iPhone apps. You don’t need to worry because you can add more later. Confirm all this and you’re taken to the main page.

YourVersion neatly arranges all your interests on side tabs. Click the ‘interest’ and all things pertaining to it will appear. You can then categorize your interest using a top row of tabs (All, News, Blogs, Web, Twitter, Videos and now in Version 2.0, Quora). So say if I want to see ‘iPhone Apps’, I touch that on the left side and choose a tab, say Blogs, and all the latest iPhone app blog articles are shown… well at least a fair amount of them.

Scroll through these until something tickles your fancy, hit it and the article will open up on a new page. You can share this article on the usual suspects such as Twitter, Email or Facebook, or open in a browser if you prefer.

All in all its a wonderfully slick discovery app. The interface is a little plain Jane but highly functional. Maybe they were going for the Google idea of simplicity or Soviet era austerity but it feels like it could use a little more zip in its design. However, this won’t stop you using each day without thinking.

Discovery is the hot potato of the moment and YourVersion just made the web less likely to burn your fingers.
