This is the first app from indie developer Zealm, and if it had been made by a brand name company, I bet you would’ve heard a lot more about it.

Taking charge of the monster you set off to rescue your kids. Of course along the way you come across obstacles in your path; humans, dogs, arrow spewing guard towers. Objective: smash the living snot out of the lot. The cool thing is you have more than one way to do it.

The monsters abilities include the ‘double handed side head slap’, ‘the old single overhead windmill open palm’, ‘rage against the peasants’, ‘the pole driving pounce’ and a very special ‘ballet power spin’. There’s also the ability to just pick up one of the giant boulders laying around and throw that for serious impact value.

The game runs smoothly and even its virtual joy stick is an ease to use… something I find difficult on a lot of games. The developer has actually done a good job on all aspects of the game; great 3D environment, large maps, choices of difficulty, smooth game play.

The major let down is the game moves too slowly. There’s no run button and when attacking, the damage dealt to your opponent is minimal and the same each time. Throwing rocks is one of the game highlights, but I’d love to be able to throw a person. Also, the Yani themed music and lack of various screams etc takes away a little depth.

It is a solid game though and the developer is in the process of adding more enemies, abilities, multiplayer and ‘an arena’. I have the feeling this app is just going to keep get better.
