Bouncer Boot Out by 5th World

Become a Bouncer

Bouncer Boot Out has the player take on the role of a jerk bouncer working the door at a series of exclusive clubs and flicking out of queue anyone who doesn’t belong; mostly the unpopular and unfashionable.

Players will advance through a series of six clubs where they will have to learn to recognize who should and shouldn’t be allowed in from cast of over thirty characters.

For those wanting a more instantly gratifying experience the game also features a Survival Mode where they play for a high score.

Bouncer Boot Out is fun and irreverent and targeted directly at the casual iPhone audience with equal appeal for male and female players.

The words

5th World hail from Brisbane, Australia, which is maybe most famous for its stunning beaches, laid back life style… and maybe also because its not Sydney. Aussies in general tend to have slightly warped sense of humour, and 5th World are showing theirs in the soon to be released app ‘Bouncer Boot Out’.

We managed to catch so time with Anthony Zwierzchaczewski, who is the PR and Marketing Manager for 5th World, and try to get to grips with their monumental-all -encompassing app launch; from company founding to character development to online web comic to some trippy grooves, these lads have thought of it all.

Enjoy the first of four behind the scenes look at an indie start-up going for gold.

AppVader: Explain a little about how 5th World came into being.

Anthony Zwierzchaczewski: Before becoming the pop culture factory it is today, 5th World was the dream of a group of people who shared a keen interest in game development, world domination and company logos. (See above for 3 logos that almost were.)

In truth, 5th World began as a third-party developer. It was quickly realized that in order to make the games we wanted to make, the company had to go it alone. Not interested in developing AAA games, our eyes were always on the casual market and soon a very clear mission statement became apparent: to deliver fun and unique gaming experiences to the widest audience possible utilizing a range of mediums.

To be technical, 5th World is an integrated media company.

In less stuffy terms, we think of 5th World as a pop culture factory producing games, animations, comics, art and more.

AV: How did you come up with the idea for Bouncer Boot Out?

AZ: With our attempts at super-villainy failing fast, August 2010 would become an important month at 5th World, where over morning plans for world domination we hit upon the idea of Bouncer Boot Out. Originally conceived as a “small game we can knock out quickly,” it fast grew in scope and the production moved in unexpected, and much larger, directions.

The development of Bouncer Boot Out was rapid and organic. It’s very possible that the initial idea was a game about Quality Assurance; making sure faulty products did not make it off a production line. Within a matter of minutes this had become the far funnier and more entertaining idea of being a jerk bouncer who kicked the ugly and unpopular out of a club queue. With the basic idea down, we then went about turning it into a fun game experience.

AV: So how is that gaming experience going to play out on the screen?

AZ: In Bouncer Boot Out, the player interacts with the game by swiping the screen in order to manage the queue to some of the most exclusive and pretentious nightclubs in the world.

The most basic function is the “boot out” where the player must identify who shouldn’t be let in and then swipes across the screen in any upwards direction, kicking them out. Characters can also be switched in line with each other in order to group rejects together allowing the player to boot out large groups at once for combo scoring.

There are two basic modes of gameplay available to a player on purchase of the game.

This first is Timed/Story Mode. In this mode, they must complete a series of timed shifts, accumulating a score which unlocks subsequent game content.

The second is Survival Mode, where the player must gain as high a score as possible before losing all lives. As more content is unlocked in Timed Mode, it can then be accessed in Survival Mode also.

We’ll have more from 5th World on Tuesday the 16th, as we delve deeper into Bouncer Boot Out by taking a look at their graphics, sounds and a 2nd trailer.

Important to note that the video above says the app will be out in October, but like any good devs, they wanted things perfect so the release will actually be on November the 30th.

Meanwhile you can sate your inner bouncer by heading over their weekly web comic here, which is updated every Wednesday.
