The words

What do you call a man who sails the seven seas with nothing more than a rickety boat, pouncing on copper coins?

Actually, I don’t know what you call that either. But that’s basically the premise to Wave Survivor. You pilot a vagabond (who looks every bit like Tom Hanks in Castaway) on a small little rowing boat, braving the tumultuous waves of the sea. Whilst collecting coins (somehow, it seems like a simpler and less cult-ish Mario), you’ll need to avoid sharks, puffer fish, flying fish, jellyfish and seagulls who take delight in crapping (for lack of a better word) on your head.

Get hit by the fishes and seagull poop and you’ll find your health diminishing. Your life bar, which is actually a heart in a jar, can only be replenished by mythical mermaids who display it like a “Deal or No Deal” model. There’s also a bar that determines how close or far away you are from a shark. Should the great jaws nip treacherously close to your boat, you’ll find yourself capsized, underwater and needing to swim away (with a series of choreographed taps and iPhone/iPod swaying) from this hungry sharp-toothed creature to your boat.
Occasionally, if you’re lucky (which I somehow happen to be), there’ll be a nice mermaid waiting just beneath your boat with some booty. Not hers. As in the booty. Like treasure. Ok you get my drift. (Do mermaids have booty if they don’t have legs?)

Along the way you’ll find yourself collecting odd random things. Like oranges to fight the scurvy. These I believe you can use. Just that I haven’t quite figured out how to use it. I must admit that they have rather quirky lines describing each loot and for those you’ve yet to unlock.

Easy and straightforward left-right-jump controls. You can connect on Facebook and invite your friends to survive along with you.

Mindless game if you fancy yourself rowing the seven seas in the search for… well… something. Great for keeping kids quiet and entertained (until they get the idea that you want them quiet and entertained).
