Lexagram

Lexagram: The word search with a twist.

Lexagram is a three-dimensional word search where rearranging the game board is part of the challenge. Rotate rows and columns to reveal new letters. Move letters around to make words. Once you’re happy, lock the word into place. But, be careful. Each word you find further limits your ability to move letters.

The words

I no very good with words… but I no a good app when I sees it.

It’s always great coming across an app that is based on a theme you know oh so well, but has managed to have its concept twisted a little to fit the digital devices we have been blessed with.

Lexagram is a word search with the added bonus of manipulation. Arrayed on a board are cubes of coloured letters 7 by 5. Each coloured cube contains five or six letters from the alphabet… so for example a red cube consists of A, A, B, C, D and F.

Highlighting a row or column (with a finger swipe) lets you rotate said row or column to reveal the other letters on the face of the cube. Similarly, rows and columns can be moved up or down in a similar fashion.

At the bottom of the screen is a ‘marquee’ of scrolling words that are your targets. Once you have shifted letters, columns and rows around to make one of these words, you lock it into place by touching the first and last letter… and this is where the tricky part comes in. Once the word is locked, its locked (although you can undo), so position of your words is important.

Unlike normal word searches where you just search and scan, Lexagram actually pushes your brain to boiling point… at least mine anyway. Puzzle freaks and word buffs are going to dream about this app and it’s simple/hard enough to play while waiting for an elevator or sitting down for serious device-on-face time.

With over 100 boards, 9 levels of difficulty and smooth interface, Lexagram more than justifies its $2.99 price tag, and will keep you swiping and turning for a long time to come.
