This iPad app couldn’t have come at a better time for me personally, as in a months time I’ll be moving into a new, unfurnished house. Between my significant other and myself, we can agree on nothing when it comes to room design and layout… it’s a battle…. one I usually lose. With this app in hand, I actually managed to win some rounds…for that alone it’s amazing.

As the developer from Helix Coding, Matt Aronoff explains:

I was redecorating, and found the existing iOS floor plan and interior design apps to be lacking — they were either too complicated or just had no care put into the user experience. I wanted something that would let me quickly and easily design a room, using my own textures if I wanted, and share that room with the people who needed to know about the design.

So, like a lot of great ideas, if what you want is not out there, go make it yourself.

The balancing act this iPad app performs between being complex yet easy to use is its true highlight. Whipping together 4 walls, with a couch, two chairs, a carpet, TV and a lamp, arranging them in place, setting sizes in feet, centimetres or metres, then colouring and adding texture to each is as easy as to do as walking.

Changing the positions of furniture and trying out different layouts is but a mere swipe away. Once you’ve got what you like, let the app PDF and email it for you…a great little feature I’m sure the professionals will love but suited us non-pros as well as we saved and printed off each room.

Not only did LivingRoom allow me to win some interior design battles, it was also a nice way for the two of us to sit down and enjoy the experience….awwwwh, ain’t that lovely!
