The Words

OK, so it’s a little unfair to compare Godzilla to… ummmm… well, whatever the opposite of Godzilla is… but that’s what I’m doing. One is made by the behemoth TAITO CORP (yes, all in caps), one is made by a few mates with a Twitter account.

TAITO have taken their orginal Space Invader game and turned it on its head. It’s now super fast, super freaky with evolving space ships and is not the original game I grew up with. Doesn’t mean its bad, it fact its good. It’s speedy as hell and makes you wonder what they’re drinking in TAITOs offices on a Friday. The price is a bit of a stick in the eye though…making me pay through the nose for nostalgia…bastards!

InvaderR is almost as fast. Its looks like a great basis to build from and as it’s just come out I hope the developers kick it along. What it sadly lacks is a play arc…it’s one screen (though really nicely drawn!) and you only get one life before it’s over…and it’s bloody hard! This is the first app I feel bad about giving a low score to, because this baby has legs if it’s only given some decent running shoes to leg it in. But hey, its free which gives them big kudos, because a) they could have charged for it and I’d want to kick their teeth in b) with some many shitty free apps, its nice to see one that could be something with some work.

If you’re out there InvaderR, I hope you’ve got plans for this one…and if you do, come back and let me know and I’ll shout all about for you… don’t let the TAITO CORP win!
