The Words

This is a spaceship shooter reminiscent of an old school arcade game. As (the name suggests) Earth has gone, you are forced into a mercenary life fending off teleporting enemy spaceships hell bent on your destruction. Free fly around the screen blasting ships, dropping bombs, avoiding asteroids, and picking up extra weapons etc, before the Mothership arrives. The game is so fast paced you easily lose track of time.

Sp what’s so good about this, as opposed to so many other similar type apps? A few things: graphics are superb, especially backgrounds which are very nicely rendered; SFX are so on point it makes other games seem lame; game design has been made just difficult enough and with enough options to justify the price.

As people will know, my pet peeve is soundtrack and SFX on apps, and over the last few days I have seen a marked increase in quality from Indie developers (Yield and Blasphere to name two). The SFX on this game have been well chosen and the soundtrack suits as well. Interesting thing to notice here is when the Mothership comes into battle you, the music changes from a lovely Sci-Fi pulse to a ramped up heavy metal thrash. Not being a fan of this music myself, this change does however perfectly suit the atmosphere of the occasion.

Great app from developers to keep an eye on.
